Gay Therapist in Los Angeles – Talk with Patrick Tully, LMFT
Therapy Designed for YOU: Individual Therapy, Couples Counseling, LGBTQ Affirmative, and More in Los Angeles, CA with Patrick Tully
Let us get you back where you want to be. Things can feel very complex and complicated. You may feel burdened by things that you never expected, and I completely understand and can help you feel better and healthier. Work can tell us to focus on self-care while not giving us the time to implement routines. The burden can feel overwhelming as we feel misunderstood and no one seems to try to understand what we are going through. I can help you with stress, shame, guilt, confusion, and more as you work through so many anxieties and troubled times.
As you look for a Los Angeles therapist, remember even if, and especially if you are not in the most dire of positions, that is not what matters. What matters is ensuring you are on a healthy path and also on a journey that feels good for you. People can have a misconception that therapy is only for those who are in the deepest and darkest pain, and that is simply not true. So many people benefit from therapy who have different needs. If you are LGBTQ+ and lacking support or feeling that you want to better understand yourself, you have come to the right place. We grow up in a society that does not teach us how to embrace our unique identities. The cisgender, heterosexual as well as binary identities are still societal norms and the norms of many cultures. The English language itself can be limited in that way, even with the way it has evolved with the help of people contributing to languages.
Let Us Work Together on a Way Forward
I am a Los Angeles gay therapist, and I am a cis gay man, and I continue my education of the various gender identities and sexual orientations that exist. This learning journey is not one that ever ends, and I am happy about that. I graduated from Antioch University Los Angeles with a graduate degree in Clinical Psychology with a specialization in LGBTQIA+ Affirmative psychology. The education there made it clear it was not meant to end there, but rather was a starting point. I continued in community mental health with affirmative LGBTQIA+ therapy training, and in private practice settings where I gained further knowledge and trainings in evidence-based practices to help with anxiety, depression, LGBTQIA+ Affirmative practices, and then started my private practice years ago and continued my trainings and even started offering talks on the intersectionality of disabilities and LGBTQIA+ Affirmative practice.
Validating lived experience is the core of my practice and one that is crucial for anyone who works with clients in the LGBTQIA+ community. It also is vital we always understand the difference between gender identity and sexual orientation when in therapy with individuals.
